Jesus of Nazareth fought the "Religious Right" until the day He died -- at their hands ! -- |
|
Here is the way Jesus himself described what he was all about :
{Luke 4:18}
"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me;
|
| You, my friend, must be a wonderfully generous, courageous,
intelligent and handsome person, as you agree with me!
More to the point, unlike the many people who
have been led to believe that Christianity is Conservative,
you have a lot more in common with Christ than with Pat
Robertson, Jerry Falwell, Gary Bauer, Jimmy Swaggart,
Jim Bakker, and their minions! This website is the fruit of
many years of effort to expose these "wolves in sheep's clothing."
Far from being the representatives of Christ which
they pretend to be, you know that such people are today's version of the "Scribes,
Pharisees, and "experts in the (Old) Law" of Jesus' time
(the very ones he preached against constantly, and who
eventually had him nailed to a cross). If you like
what I have started, I hope that you will help me
improve on it, and bring more and more of your Christian
friends and/or rivals to the realization that they, too,
should want to be "Liberals Like Christ".
Before we get to that, however, there's an obstacle we need to negotiate, called the "Church and State" trap. If you value America's unique insight that the institutions of Church and State are best kept separate, and totally independent of one another, then I couldn't agree with you more. But that shouldn't be confused with the question of separating RELIGION and POLITICS. Please check out our Church & State page, and recommend it to the many Liberals who mistakenly believe that American politicians can or should ignore religion! At this point may I recommend that you try viewing And now, if you will only follow me for a few minutes, you may well be astonished at how Liberal Christians would be if -- instead of being misled by so many phoney "Evangelicals" or "Fundamentalists", who are functioning as tools of this country's Conservative fat cats -- Christians read their Bible and followed the actual teaching and example of Jesus, the leader they are supposed to be following. Most of this site is going to be devoted to persuading "Conservative Christians" to face the fact that when Jesus said, "It is almost impossible for a rich man to be saved," that comes very close to translating these days into "It is almost impossible for a Conservative to be a Christian and/or for a Christian to be a Conservative (because although their unsuspecting foot soldiers may not know it, what Conservatives are all about conserving are the advantages of the "haves" over the "have nots"). Since you are already a "member of the choir", these pages aren't directed at you. But, even if you don't learn much that is new here, I hope the format is new and fresh enough for you to find it a powerful tool for bringing your "Conservative" Christians friends and/or adversaries to the realization that they ought to be much more concerned about serving G O D's interests than those of the G.O.P.! How I wish I could capture some of the spark of Jesus' teaching that prompted the disciples to comment on the road to Emmaus: "Weren't our hearts on fire, as he explained the Scriptures to us!" Before we can proceed, however, there's one issue that many Christian and perhaps even Jewish Liberals have a lot of trouble with, the issue of Abortion. I have grappled with this question for years, and would like to offer these reassuring words to my Liberal friends of all faiths :
After seeing how we are trying to convert
"Christians who are Not Liberals",
into "Christians Like Christ",
we hope that you will want to make our site one of your
favorites and join the many people
who are promoting this website to family, friends,
church and club newsletters, and even to pure strangers
whom they meet on WWW bulletin boards, etc.!
